Join us for this exciting trek through some of the locations of the Prophet Joseph Smith’s life. Visualize the advent of the Book of Mormon via the “Palmyra Pageant” and the tumultuous history of Kirtland as you attend the dramatic production, “This Is Kirtland.” Karl Anderson is sure to cast you under his spell as he unfolds many great moments in his area. President Hinckley fondly referred to Karl as “Mr. Kirtland.” We are so blessed to have Brother Anderson with us throughout your stay here!

In Nauvoo, Parley P. Pratt unfolds the marvelous “Nauvoo Pageant” as many of the inspiring events of the Prophet’s life in Nauvoo is presented in song and dance! An experience of a life time is yours as the pageant unfolds before your very eyes. You are sure to enjoy visiting the many LDS Church Historical sites.

ITINERARY

Day 1, Thursday, July 8th – Your transcontinental flight takes you to Buffalo, NY. Your new motor coach and great driver are waiting for you at the airport. Your journey continues into the Finger Lakes area and your brand new hotel for the next two evenings. This evening, you will be taken to the site of the world renowned “Palmyra Pageant!” As the BOOK OF MORMON stories unfold before your eyes, witness the incredible staging

with awe-inspiring sites, sounds and lights! This spiritual production takes you to the times of ancient prophets, such as Lehi, Nephi, Abinadi, Alma, Helaman, Mormon, Moroni and others! Witness the miraculous visit of the SAVIOR! The mental images of this pageant are sure to remain with you the rest of your life! (DA)

Day 2, Friday, July 9th – After your deluxe continental breakfast, enjoy the drive from the hotel to Fayette, New York where the church was organized April 6, 1830. Here the story of the finish of the translation of the Book of Mormon, the organization of the church and the miraculous story of the three witnesses, and maybe the story of the first miracle after the church is organized will be unfolded to you. Next, you go to the top of “HILL CUMORAH” in historic Mormon country! As you stand here, think about the great scenes that occurred here as the last of the Nephites were destroyed in war! Reflect on how Moroni in A.D. 421 was left alone to finish the plates and bury them in this hill. Also, recall JOSEPH SMITH’S tremendous excitement when Moroni delivered the plates to him!

The township of PALMYRA is next and is often referred to as the “CRADLE OF THE RESTORATION”. As you observe the center of PALMYRA’S township and the famous “FOUR CHURCHES CORNER”, it seems to symbolize the confusion that young Joseph felt concerning so many different churches. Time will be given for lunch (on own) and a visit to the GRANDIN PRESS. The JOSEPH SMITH home and the SMITH CABINS are near the

beautiful SACRED GROVE and will be visited this afternoon. The grove is a most sacred and choice place to visit as you contemplate that special morning in 1820 as JOSEPH retired to the grove to pray! Your next stop is at the “PALMYRA TEMPLE.” If you wish to attend a session at any of the special temples we visit on this tour, please indicate so on your reservation form. It will be necessary for you to bring your own temple clothing, as rental clothing is not available here. (PRESIDENT HINCKLEY encouraged every temple goer to have his or her own temple clothes). For those not wishing to attend the temple, other options (at no cost to you) are available. Following the days activities, you will be able to attend the incredible and uplifting PAGEANT once again. (CB & DA)

Day 3, Saturday, July 10th – Following your included breakfast, you depart PALMYRA. The roar of cascading falls awaits you! Where? You guessed it - the awesome “NIAGARA FALLS!” There are higher falls but none more famous than Niagara Falls! Time will be limited, but the opportunity to view the falls from the United States side is a sight long to be remembered. Don’t forget your camera – and film! Your journey continues into the KIRTLAND, OHIO area, and the gathering place for the church in the early

1830’s... The KIRTLAND TEMPLE is your next stop and is owned by the Community of Christ Church (formerly the Reorganized Latter-Day Saints). As you sit in this sacred House of the Lord, think of the early Saints who sacrificed so much to build this edifice and picture the scene at its dedication. You will understand why “THE SPIRIT OF GOD LIKE A FIRE WAS BURNING”. Home for the next two nights will be in the KIRTLAND area. Dinner is included tonight followed by the LDS production, “THIS IS KIRTLAND”! (CB, D)

Day 4, Sunday, July 11th – Following a continental breakfast and Sacrament Meeting with the local Saints in Hiram, Ohio, your local church historian, Karl Anderson, will be with you today. Brother Anderson has been instrumental in the exciting changes taking place in KIRTLAND! The JOHNSON FARM in Hiram, Ohio is next on your journey. JOHN JOHNSON, a prosperous farmer was converted to the gospel when he went to Kirtland to meet the Prophet, JOSEPH SMITH. JOSEPH and SIDNEY RIGDON received revelations in a room on the upper floor of the JOHNSON home, including the great revelation on the “THREE DEGREES OF GLORY” found in the 76TH Section of the D & C. It was from this home that the prophet was dragged outside one cool night sitting up with a sick child who later passed away. JOSEPH was brutally tarred and feathered and left for dead. He and Emma sat

up most of the night getting this horrid stuff off of him. However, he preached a powerful sermon the next day, and some of the offenders were present! The NEWEL K. WHITNEY STORE, headquarters for the church in Kirtland for a year and a half, is your next stop. More revelations in the D. & C. were received here than any other place. The store has been recognized as one of the most authentic restoration sites in America. The newly restored buildings such as the Saw Mill, the Ashery, the School House and Hotel are next on the agenda. A visit to the MORLEY FARM where the first High Priests were ordained here is next. (CB, D)

Day 5, Monday, July 12th – Whatever is not seen on Sunday will be seen today with Brother Anderson. After lunch, your travels take you through more of the beautiful state of OHIO. What is a Buckeye? Maybe someone in Columbus will tell you! Dinner is included, and then you check into you hotel for the night. (CB, D)

Day 6, Tuesday, July 13th – Following your continental breakfast, a session at the lovely COLOMBUS temple starts your day! All though a small temple, you will find it a welcoming and delightful experience. Your journey continues through southern Ohio to the rolling hills of Kentucky, and a session at the gorgeous Louisville, Kentucky temple this evening. Your overnight is in Louisville. A fabulous dinner awaits you tonight. (CB, D)

Day 7, Wednesday, July 14th – This morning enjoy your drive though southern Indiana and Illinois and into St. Louis, MO. with a session at the beautiful St. Louis temple. Then your journey continues through lush rolling countryside into Mark Twain Country. You board a sternwheeler for a fabulous dinner cruise on the mighty Mississippi River. This evening following the cruise, it is on to your three night hotel stay near Nauvoo. (CB, D)

Day 8, Thursday, July 15th – Following your continental breakfast this morning, your journey enters NAUVOO, THE “CITY BEAUTIFUL.” A mid-morning session at the Nauvoo temple will start your day. Every temple in the church is beautiful and very special. The Nauvoo Temple is this and more! This exquisite edifice has created unparalleled excitement throughout the church. Saints from Australia to Poland have been as excited as those of us who had ancestors help build the original temple. Following the temple session, lunch is included at a 1940’s café in Nauvoo. As you may have already discovered, Nauvoo is not just a place to see, but rather to experience! You will next have

the opportunity to visit some of the more than twenty-eight historical sites. Choose from the Brigham Young, John Taylor, Wilford Woodruff, Heber C. Kimball and Browning homes. The blacksmith shop, print shop, post office and brick yard are also available for tours. A nostalgic walk or ride down Parley Street (Known as “Trail of Hope”) is an absolute must! These are just a few of the wonderful restored sites you may see. After an included dinner, the senior missionary’s production of “RENDEVOUS” will be enjoyed tonight followed by the incredible Nauvoo Pageant. (CB, L, D)

Day 9, Friday, July 16th – After a continental breakfast, your adventure retraces some of the same steps that the Prophet Joseph and his Brother Hyrum took on their way to Carthage Jail. As you view the film in the LDS Visitor Center and enter the jail, the events that happened on June 27TH, 1844, will strengthen your testimony. From Carthage, you return to Nauvoo for more touring. Following an included lunch, a tour will be made at the Community of Christ (RLDS) Visitor’s Center The tour includes the Mansion House and the homestead and burial place of the Prophet Joseph Smith, Emma, and beloved Brother Hyrum. The Joseph Smith store where the relief society was organized in the upstairs room is next! This afternoon, enjoy the young missionaries production of “High Hopes & Riverboats,” then the lovely and historic Nauvoo Hotel with its delicious dinner buffet is on the agenda this evening! Once again, you may attend the wonderful Nauvoo Pageant! (CB, L, D)Day 10, Saturday, July 17th – Following your continental breakfast, today’s journey will follow Brother Brigham’s Vanguard companies trail across Southern Iowa all the way to Mount Pisgah. It took that company over four months! You will stop in Montrose, Bonaparte, and Garden Grove for lunch and on to Mount Pisgah. Next, it is south to Adam-Ondi-Ahmen and then Far West. Your evening stay is in Liberty. A farewell dinner is included this evening. (CB, D)

Day 11, Sunday, July 18th – Following your continental breakfast, a farewell devotional this morning will be held on the coach before you arrive in Independence. Independence was an outfitting point for westbound wagon trains from 1830 to 1850. In July 1831, the Prophet revealed that this would be the center place of Zion where the New Jerusalem would be built. Your tour includes a drive through the church historical district which is on part of this sacred ground. A tour of the Community of Christ (RLDS) Temple is also included. A tour of the LDS Visitor Center, directly across the street from the RLDS temple is next. To conclude your historical tour, you return to Liberty. During the winter of 1838-39, the prophet Joseph, Hyrum and some of the other brethren were imprisoned in liberty jail. The unheated

quarters were cold and cramped, without sanitary facilities and the food was barely edible. Out of these terrible conditions came some of the greatest revelations ever received by the Prophet Joseph. As you fly home later today, sit back and soak up the experiences and adventures of the past few days with a greater appreciation for your pioneer and American heritage. (CB)
