ITINERARY

Day 1, Monday, August 23rd - Your day begins with an included continental breakfast (juice, milk and pastries) as you depart the Wasatch Front. Photo and lunch stops will be along the way. Your day ends in Cheyenne, WY for your fine dinner delight including a surprise or two! (CB & D)

Day 2, Tuesday, August 24th - Following an included continental breakfast, a stop will be made at the fascinating MAMMOTH SITE, a museum and paleontological site near Hot Springs, SD. It is not just a window into the past – it’s as close to being a true time machine as you’ll find! Some of the best ice-age fossils on the planet are on permanent display here, and yours to enjoy! The WIND CAVE in Wyoming has just what you’d expect – plenty of wind! This cave is full of crystals, underground formations and chambers, boxing, the “Garden of Eden” and the “Dungeon.” Be ready to hike by electric light, candlelight, or headlamp. Yes, there is also an elevator for those who wish to use it. Above ground, enjoy rolling prairies, cool rock formations, gorgeous pine forests, bison, elk, pronghorn, mule deer, coyotes, and prairie dogs.

You will check into your hotel for the next two evenings and then it is off to the breathtaking MT. RUSHMORE NATIONAL MONUMENT! It is a majestic work of art and a patriotic symbol recognized around the world. Idaho native, (no, not Palmer), Gutzon Borglum, the sculptor of Mt. Rushmore, was 60 years “young” before he ever saw the rock we now call Rushmore. Of

his colossal task, Borglum said, “We will build a monument so high and so far away that it will not pay future generations to tear it down.” Dinner is included tonight.

Day 3, Wednesday, August 25th – Breakfast is included again this morning and lunch is on your own. Your first stop today is the CRAZY HORSE MEMORIAL. The face of the Lakota leader has emerged as the world’s largest mountain carving. When completed, the carving will stand 563 feet high and 641 feet long. When HENRY STANDING BEAR invited sculptor Korzog

Ziologkowski to the Black Hills to carve CRAZY HORSE, he stated, “My fellow chiefs and I would like the white man to know the red man had great heroes too!” Then ‘All Aboard’ the 1880 TRAIN for a twenty mile journey from Hill City to Keystone, SD on a vintage train like the ones that helped settle the great American West! Watch out for the fascinating TV and movie sets located in the dense forest along your trek!

Your next stop is a unique drive through BEAR COUNTRY. You are promised to see black bear, grizzlies, and other animals native to the hills. A “must see” walk through Baby Land allows you to view bear cubs, wolves, cougars, bobcats and many other animals. Check out the fabulous gift shop!

Bring your appetite with you for a famous Black Hills funtastic dinner/show! Following dinner, you return to CRAZY HORSE for an awesome illumination show of the monument. (B & DINNER- ENTERTAINMENT)

Day 4, Thursday, August 26th – After breakfast your adventure to Casper, WY is full of sightseeing and fun, fun, fun on the coach. Then, do we have a fun evening planned for you full of mystery, surprises, and what more can we say? (B & D)

Day 5, Friday, August 27th – After an included deluxe continental breakfast, sit back and reflect on the past few days of your journey through time and history. A short rest stop will be made at the historic 193 feet high INDEPENDENCE ROCK, known as the “Register of the Desert”, and records more than 50,000 pioneer names such as Jim Bridger. The Oregon,

Mormon, California and PONY EXPRESS trails come together at the Mormon Handcart Visitor Center near the famous Devil’s Gate, a major landmark. Also on site is the Sun Ranch Museum open for your viewing. Your journey continues to the Wasatch Front returning late afternoon. Hopefully, you now have a greater appreciation of those who have gone before you and blazed the Wild, Wild, West on the western frontier. (CB)
